Our Story
WallVoice24BD was created to preserve one of the most significant visual records of the July–August 2024 movement in Bangladesh. During this period, streets, university campuses, bridges, and public walls across Dhaka transformed into open canvases where students and ordinary citizens expressed their hopes, resistance, grief, and aspirations through colorful graffiti. These artworks documented not only protest against injustice but also dreams of unity, freedom, and a better future.
Unlike conventional historical documents, these murals captured the emotions of a generation in real time. They reflected stories of courage, sacrifice, multicultural coexistence, and the collective spirit that united people from different backgrounds. However, as walls are repainted, renovated, or naturally deteriorate over time, these powerful visual expressions face the risk of disappearing forever.
To ensure that this important chapter of Bangladesh's contemporary history is not lost, WallVoice24BD digitally archives 1,225 high-resolution graffiti images collected from six major locations across Dhaka. Every image has been carefully organized according to its location, creating an accessible digital repository for historians, artists, students, researchers, and the general public.
Beyond preserving street art, WallVoice24BD serves as an interdisciplinary research resource supporting studies in computer vision, machine learning, political science, sociology, communication studies, anthropology, history, urban culture, and digital humanities. By safeguarding these temporary artworks, the project ensures that the voices once painted on the walls continue to inspire research, education, and collective memory for generations to come.
